November 2008, Newsletter

Hello Everyone,

A short readable and useful newsletter

The November LinkedIn hint:

LinkedIn have improved their search, and added some applications. I've installed TWO applications on my own page. There are nine to choose from.

The Useful Common:

Most of us cruse along on auto-pilot, not thinking too deeply about things until we hit a wall of some kind. There are lots of walls coming, the world will be different on the other side of them. I've been engaged in discussions about; What is money? Why can't we restrain, over-fishing, over-cutting forests, polluting our rivers and the ocean, and the issue of excessive credit? I think this is one problem, not many problems. It's about how people learn, and why we actively choose not to learn some things. I can create this problem for myself. The likely result is early death. (Smoking, excessive alcohol, over-eating, and driving too fast, might be personal examples.)

Engage with other people and Groups:

I've been talking to people in India about the successes and failures of the world's largest democracy. If successful democratic government like we enjoy in New Zealand is to be widespread in the world, India with it's historic links to English Law and administration is a critical test case. Sadly many Indian's believe corruption at the highest levels is normnal.

Invitations

The Kiwi Scrum Network has 494 members. Often there are 4 to 8 new applications a day. Invite your NZ email contacts to join LinkedIn and Kiwi Scrum. FAR too FEW New Zealander's are members of these valuable networks.

Volunteers

You become what you do. The new expertise you are developing arises partly out of interest, then out of tinkering, playing about, and finally out of trying some things, usually as a volunteer, often trying to help someone else. In social networks will you find, or trip over, people who need your "help". In the process of helping you raise your own knowledge and skill levels; simple collaborative win/win. Look for those opportunities.

The Value of Connections

You don't need thousands of connections, but you do need at least 30, and preferably 100, and you should quietly keep adding some just to keep in the loop as new people come along. There are TEN Open Networkers in Kiwi Scrum. Link to them.
