Hello Everyone,
Kiwi Scrum has 1360 members. There are now many geographical subgroups. If you live outside NZ or regularly do business overseas these groups are to help you. Kiwi Scrum North America, Kiwi Scrum UK, Kiwi Scrum Middle East, Kiwi Scrum China, Kiwi Scrum Australia, Kiwi Scrum South East Asia, Kiwi Scrum South America, Kiwi Scrum Japan, Kiwi Scrum Europe, Kiwi Scrum Africa. We can have a few more groups if they are needed. Please join the appropriate sub groups yourself. If you know people who should be subgroup members, please suggest that they join.
LinkedIn Developer network. Those of you who are involved in coding might appreciate the opportunity to connect your work directly with LinkedIn.
If you have a NZ City based LinkedIn Subgroup, and you have not given face to face meetings a try, why don't you attempt a small after work meeting early in December. Organise a more elaborate meeting for February 2010. In January, you might do a search for people from your city and invite them to join. I'm happy to use my network to help you do that. Please ask.
On my Ryze Innovation network, there is a strong thread running against the concept of man made global warming. This opinion seems to be widespread, and I'm totally surprised, and frankly a little disappointed.
The debate generates enormous heat and animosity, that I haven't seen on the Internet for 3-4 years. One of the participants called me some bad names, saying that this was a debate that goes to the heart of who you are, and what you believe, and how you make your contribution to the world. I do agree about that. I think I'm strongly committed to good processes, to seeking understanding, and to working with the best available "truth". I'm told that I live in a delusion of my own making. That's correct. True of all of us. The question is how close is "my world" to something real and kickable?
Get involved. It's always surprising what you might learn, especially about other people.
Personal plug. Ryze Network for Social Networking Newbies. If you want to learn quickly and you are prepared to do some work this is a good place to go. Only 3 members from this network have joined so far. I do suggest that you join now. Hang about for about a month or so and make a big effort early next year.
How many NZ Members of LinkedIn are there? Someone suggested 150,000. I'm sure that's too many. Based on the Bryndwr Group survey, I identified 3 LinkedIn members in 100 households. On that basis there are about 46,500 LinkedIn members in New Zealand. None of the three I identified were making any real use of LinkedIn. Of the people Linked to me, the median number of connections is a number less than TEN. For LinkedIn as a whole the median number of connections is less than FIVE.
Last time I took a sample (August 2009) the median number of connections for Kiwi Scrum members was 110.
There is a real job of work to be done inside most firms just getting people started and helping them to build 30 connections. If your company needs help with that, I am available.
When you volunteer to do something. Particularly when you volunteer to lead a group or to coach some people, you always learn unexpected things. The stand out lesson, from working with Social Networking Newbies, is that more than 50% of the people who joined, will not write even a few lines about who they are, for others to read.
It's in the process of discussion that we learn things online. You can't plan discussions, they have a direction of their own. Most online discussions hardly start before they stop. The Kiwi Scrum Discussion Board on LinkedIn, works better than I expected. Take a look once a week. Also, check out some of the other LinkedIn Groups you've joined. Yes, it takes time. Try to do lots of reading. Feed your mind on things that are worth the effort.
More interesting news next month,
