The New Zealand Connection

October Newsletter

Hello Everyone,

There are USEFUL messages below. I will keep it short.
These Newsletters are archived here.

This month's Xing hint:

I go to "My Start Page" every day. I seldom go to "My Profile". But other people do go to your profile and they expect you to have filled in at least the basic details. Have you done that yet? There are FOUR tabs, Business Details, Confirmed Contacts, About Me, and Guestbook. Take a look at them now. Do you have some work to do?

The Useful Common:

On AOK_K-Net David wrote: "I am studying USA, higher education institutions to better understand how they change in response to external conditions. They change slowly, but the fact is, that they do change. Those changes are remarkable and largely unforseen. The changes people were predicting either didn't happen when people thought they would, or didn't happen at all. The changes that did happen come out of left field. ... Today THREE out of 4 seats in higher education are occupied by adult students who are studying part time. The system is still tuned toward 18 year old full time students. The education system is insular, unfair, under-performing and unresponsive. There is absolutely no plan to change anything. (But as I said change does happen.) "

Engage with other people and Groups:

Jim writes about his experience in the court system. "We've rewritten the law regarding minorities, women, children and homes and families, and abandoned what used to be the orthodox view. I found myself struggling to understand the social revolution sweeping Western civilization. I began a self study project, which for the next few years consumed much of my time and energy." ... "Western civilization is in a transition from 'modernity' to whatever comes next. ... When "whatever comes next' has no agreed name, the old practices have a considerable advantage."

Invitations

When you get this letter, is it interesting? Who else do you know who would like to read it? Pass it on. Invite your friends to join Xing. IF they have a NZ connection they can join this group.

The Value of Reading

I flicked through over 200 pages of my private reading over the last month. 90% about economics, money and markets. I won't bore you. Enough to say that we need to find the opportunity in the current recession, so we can build in new ways. Can you see what was rotten at the core of the old system? The revolution Jim was speaking about above isn't limited to the courts.

Regards,
John
